Timely & holistic healthcare is out of reach for the average Jamaican
Heart disease, stroke, cancer, and complications of diabetes mellitus are the most common causes of premature death in Jamaica. Lack of health insurance, and access are major challenges to identifying and preventing these diseases. Jamaica’s "free" public health system is backlogged and underfunded and cannot fill the gaps.
Too Many Jamaicans Lack Access to Preventative Healthcare
Vision 2030 calls for Jamaica to be the best place to live, work, raise families, and do business. To achieve this vision, Jamaicans must have access to good health care.
The Barriffe Insurance Group, LLC (BIG) launched a first-of-its-kind health subscription program that partners expatriates with Jamaican citizens to improve access to private, preventative health care.
Now Is the time
We at The BIG are determined to create an enduring paradigm for improving health agency, access, and outcomes in rural Jamaica.
Our motivations are fueled by sobering statistics:
- 80% of Jamaicans lack any form of health insurance, with most coverage concentrated among public sector workers
- 79% of deaths in Jamaica are due to diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, which are preventable through lifestyle changes and early healthcare interventions
- Jamaica's public health services are overwhelmed; increased patient loads, insufficient medical staff, and resource shortages, lead to long wait times and delays in care
- Rural residents face a higher prevalence of chronic diseases and lower access to care due to weak infrastructure and long travel distances to health facilities
- Rural residents have more little access to health insurance compared to urban citizens
Create a healthier future for every Jamaican
There has never been a health subscription company of this kind focused on improving health through an expat-matched model. The Expatriate Alliance for Total Care (EAT) model focuses on empowering Jamaican families left behind. Through EAT we can meet the challenge to solve health inequity and access in Jamaica.
Closing the health distance
To provide Jamaicans with an affordable healthcare option, BIG will be launched several health subscription plans to support families and students:
BIG Individual Plan
BIG School Plan
BIG is building a diaspora-led healthcare model that supports all Jamaicans, at home and abroad
