What is Microinsurance?
Microinsurance refers to a type of insurance specifically designed to serve low-income individuals, providing protection against risks in exchange for affordable premiums. The goal is to make insurance accessible to populations that traditionally might not be able to afford or qualify for traditional health insurance coverage. The Barriffe Insurance Group (BIG) employs the microinsurance framework to provide simplified health subscriptions with lower coverage limits and focuses on critical preventative healthcare.
At BIG, the word “micro” in microinsurance does not reflect the quality or value of the service or the assets being insured, but rather identifies our target audience—low-income individuals in Jamaica. Through our innovative health subscription plans, BIG seeks to expand healthcare coverage and access to low-income, underserved communities in Jamaica.
#Microhealth was designed to ensure that even the most vulnerable populations can receive timely healthcare. It is especially tailored to individuals diagnosed with chronic conditions such as hypertension (HTN), diabetes, or hyperlipidemia, all of which increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and heart failure. BIG also emphasizes early cancer screenings to ensure timely diagnosis.
#Microdental provides affordable coverage for routine dental checkups, cleanings, and basic dental procedures such as fillings and extractions.
#Microvision focuses on essential eye care services, including eye exams, vision correction, and subsidies for eyewear such as glasses or contact lenses.
